Access to water and Sanitation facilities still remains a challenge and continues to be responsible for high mortality and morbidity in rural communities of Kabale district.
Kabale district in Southwestern Uganda is a highland area with a high population density and heavy land fragmentation for instance an average household has six to seven plots of land on several hills.
The women in the greater Kabale have welcomed GWEFODE’s Rain Water Harvesting and Kitchen Gardening project to address the problem of food shortage. Kitchen gardening is growing a variety of foods, vegetables and fruits on small portions of gardens behind houses.
